introduction

Sindh Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (former IPM&R) was established in 2006 for multi-disciplinary rehabilitation of disabilities. School of Occupational Therapy was established for Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy, and the first batch was enrolled in 2007 and passed out in 2011. Every year the school is having 4 batches that are running through their respective semesters. This school of occupational therapy is the first school in Pakistan that took the male students into its innovative entry-level bachelor’s degree program in 2007. The program is designed based on “Minimum Standard of Occupational Therapy Education “offered by World federation of Occupational Therapy (WFOT). The program has been fully endorsed by WFOT. Total number of students who have so far graduated is around 200. The Department is committed to providing an undergraduate education program that produces qualified, ethical entry-level professionals competent to deliver Occupational Therapy services to the disabled community in Pakistan primarily and abroad. Our mission is to produce graduates who will improve lives of patients through caring attitudes and respect for dignity of all clients’ .The department is concerned to develop among students an understanding of health care education systems; also to develop among the students best skills in communication, clinical reasoning, and ethical competence to become good decision makers. Consistent with their communication to lifelong learning, the education is provided with emphasis on leadership and research skills to meet the demand of the day, nationally and internationally.

The School and Department of Occupational Therapy are committed to providing an undergraduate education program that produces qualified and ethical entry-level professionals competent to deliver Occupational Therapy services to the disabled community in Pakistan primarily, and abroad. The mission of Occupational Therapy is to produce therapists who will improve lives of clients through caring attitudes and respect for dignity of all. Occupational Therapy as a vital member of the rehabilitation team is concerned to develop among students an understanding of health care education system. Also Occupational Therapy is committed to develop among the students best skills in communication, clinical reasoning, and ethical competence to become good decision makers. Consistent with their communication to lifelong learning, the faculty is dedicated to provide education with emphasis on leadership and research skills.
