COURSE SUMMARY

In this course you will learn how to assess, diagnose and treat people requiring prosthetic and orthotic care. The strong practical emphasis will be taught in conjunction with relevant theory and background information.

This course offers the opportunity to learn through placements in prosthetic and orthotic clinics across the country. As you move through the course, you will gradually acquire a greater depth of learning and increased competency in dealing with people, meeting their needs and deciding on the most effective treatment to offer.

ADMISSION PROCESS

Academic Requirement:

Candidate must be intermediate science, pre-medical/pre-engineering group (Biology/Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry) with minimum 60% marks or must have taken an equivalent examination of a recognized Institute/College.

 

Application and Selection:

Applications are submitted on the standard Institute application form. Additional Information specific to the program should be appended to the application form. Where further information is required, applicants may be offered an interview.

Applications are screened in accordance with the minimum entry requirements, and ranked. Applicants may be offered a place on the program, placed on a waiting list, or declined entry.

All courses have their continuous assessment during the semester that includes quizzes, assignments, mid-term examination (30%) and a final examination (70%).

Grading is absolute, no relative grading. Percentages are converted to GPA and their respective grades as follows:

Achievements / Workshops / Seminars

  • Workshop was arranged to generate more understanding about the latest conservative treatment for scoliosis through describing Prescription Principle of Charleston Bending Brace in the 6th International Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Conference 2019.
  • Workshop was been arranged on the topic of “Recent Development in Healthcare for Cerebral Palsy: Implications and Opportunities for Orthotics” to guide students and faculty about the possible treatment plan for patient suffering with Cerebral palsy.
  • Community-based Rehabilitation camp was setup at the Chandka Medical Center Larkana, Sindh, where our rehabilitation team provided prosthesis for their physical rehabilitation.
  • In a short time span, the Department of Prosthetics & Orthotics has delivered more than 14,000 prosthesis (artificial limbs) to amputees and orthotics (supports) mostly free of charges.
  • A community-based Rehabilitation program in Thatta by our Institute provided 30 limbs to limbless people in January 2012.
  • Organized a press conference for delivery of triple limbs amputee in presence of Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza, Information Minister Raza Haroon on 14th September 2008.
  • Community-based Rehabilitation program in Larkana was organized in collaboration with Sindh Government which provided 30 limbs to limbless people in January 2019.
  • Community-based Rehabilitation program in Badin in collaboration with Sindh Government provided 90 limbs to limbless people in August 2020.
  • Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed in 2015 between the World Health Organization (WHO) and Sindh Institute of Physical Medicine And Rehabilitation, to facilitate the material and Human Resource for delivering Orthotics appliance for Polio affected people in the community.

RECOGNITION BY GOVERNING BODIES/ COUNCILS

There is no governing body/council of Prosthetics and Orthotics. Curriculum is recognized by HEC.
